If you plan to fail, you fail to plan. Am I right? Well, I believe the same is true in design. When approaching the design of a room you can’t just randomly pick things and hope it’ll all “turn out.” Starting with a plan ensures that everything will blend together in a nice, cohesive manner. I love putting together mood boards for clients to help them understand what the plan is for a space.
Here I designed a living room for a client who was looking to bring some finishing touches to their front room. I love the way a touch of brass can brighten up a space filled with wood and cozy fabrics. And how a glass base lamp can bring a fresh modern look to a simple, more traditional space.
Choosing items with varying texture is an important part of the process.
Don’t be afraid to mix different styles, tones, and textures. One of the most common concerns I hear are about mixing metals. Yes, it’s ok! You can have stainless and brass in the same space. I actually highly recommend it. It’s what will bring visual interest to your space.
And don’t forget to add your greens! Just like every plate needs a green vegetable, every space needs a green plant, or two or three or four! A few of my favorites are maidenhair fern, snake plant, succulents, and fiddle leaf fig.
