If you would have told me 4 years ago that I would be sitting on the white sandy beaches of the West Indies with my husband on an all expense paid trip, I would have told you you were crazy!!! And yet, here we are, basking in the warm December sunshine of St. Johns, Antigua.
So how on earth did we end up here? Well, rewind to the beginning years of my marriage with me on the couch every night at 7:30, killing it on my favorite game show Wheel of Fortune. My husband use to watch in amazement as night after night I solved almost every puzzle, and before the other contestants too, I might add. Let’s just say the hubby was impressed. So impressed that he filled out an online application for me to try out for Wheel of Fortune.
Now fast forward a few month from there. I received an email letting me know I could come try out. Well, I passed the tryouts! Next, I waited for my turn to be on the show….and waited and waited and waited. Finally, they called me when I was about 20 weeks pregnant with my son and they said I was too far along to spin the wheel and to call them when I was ready.
At this point I was nervous that I’d never get to realize my dream and be on Wheel of Fortune, but after my son turned 4 months old I called them and told them I was ready. They booked me for their Christmas Eve show and well, the rest is history! I won $26,800 in cash and prizes, including two trips: one to Nashville, Tennessee, and the other to Antigua! So, here we are! Having the time of our lives in our own little Paradise at The Verandah Resort & Spa here in St. Johns, Antigua.
Before we left I knew that the one adventure at the top of my to-do-list was definitely swimming with the sting rays. It was without a doubt, one of the coolest experiences I’ve ever had! If you ever get a chance to visit this island, go to StingRay City. You will not be disappointed! (And may I add a tip: don’t wear a bandeau suit unless you want to look naked in all your photos! WHOOPS!)
Our favorite beach (besides the amazing private beaches at our resort) was Long Bay Beach. Have you ever seen sands so white and ocean so blue? I took many a naps here and enjoyed my favorite book on those white sands.
The weather could not have been better. I downloaded Antigua on my weather app and checked the forecast almost obsessively before we left. I was certain we were going to be rained out because all I saw for weeks and weeks was rain, rain and more rain. But guess what? It was blue skies and sunshine every single day of our trip! (And what’s kind of crazy is that the day after we left, the clouds moved back in and the rains came back. We lucked out BIG TIME!)
Devil’s Bridge was another tourist attraction I wanted to check out and just so happened to be a 10 minute walk from our resort. So one afternoon we walked over and found one of the coolest natural made bridges I’ve ever seen.
And there you have it. The most amazing all expenses paid weeklong trip to Antigua thanks to my amazing husband for signing me up to go on Wheel of Fortune, and of course we can’t forget my mad puzzle solving skills that got us here. Au Revoir Antigua. Until we meet again…
